Chittorgarh Fort

This massive fort located on a hill is spread over an area of 700 acres and houses over 65 historic structures including ancient temples, water bodies, memorials and victory towers. A pathway takes you from the foothills to the summit through the seven gates before arriving at Rampol. Surajpol is the main gate here. One of the largest forts in the country, it is definitely a must visit in Rajasthan.

Kumbhalgarh Fort

One of the largest forts complexes in the world, the iconic Kumbhalgarh Fort was built by Rana Kumbha in the 15th century and is located 48 km from the city of Rajsamand. Enlisted as a UNESCO world heritage site, this fort boasts the world’s second largest wall extending up to a length of 38 kilometers. Other important attractions inside the fort complex include Kumbha Palace, Badal Mahal, water reservoirs, Chhatris, and Jain temples.

Amber Fort

Located in Jaipur, Amber Fort is visited by thousands of tourists every day. A reflection of Rajputana royalty, this magnificent structure is made out of pink and yellow sandstone, and is named as a UNESCO world heritage site. Attractions include elephant rides as well as a light and sound show in the evening. It is one of the oldest forts in the state that still speaks of its glorious past.

Built by the founder of Jodhpur, Rao Jodha in 1459, this majestic fort overlooks the blue city and is known for its unique architecture. It is believed that the fort was cursed by a hermit who was forced to relocate from the hill to build this fort. There are seven gates leading to the fort each of which was constructed by a different ruler during their reign.

Built in 1156 AD by the Rajput king Jaisal, this is one of the most stunning forts in India that still houses some of the old city’s population, making it one of the few living forts in the world. The forts yellow sandstone walls change its tawny colour to honey-gold as sunsets which is why it is also referred to as Sonar Qila or Golden Fort. It is listed as UNESCO world heritage site and attracts scores of both domestic and international tourists.
