Paro is a charming town in Bhutan, nestled in the scenic Paro Valley and surrounded by forests, mountains, rice fields, and the Paro River – wherever you are in Paro, there’s always something special to admire, and what’s more, the valley town is pedestrian friendly with colourful wooden shops, farmhouses, a bustling weekend market, traditional restaurants, and sightseeing landmarks. We offer cheap Paro holidays, so why not book yourself a break to this quaint town soon?
There are more than 150 temples and monasteries in and around Paro; the Jangtsa Dumtseg Lhakhang Temple is particularly worth nothing, located between two valleys and constructed in the style of a Buddhist chorten. Another important landmark is the Paro Taktsang monastery, also known as the Tiger’s Nest, nestled in the mountains; the monastery is believed to be built next to the site where Indian Buddhist master Guru Rinpoche used to meditate.
Another superb holiday highlight of Paro is its impressive museums which allow an insight into the rich cultural heritage of Bhutan. The National Museum of Bhutan is a great place to start your exploration, located in a historic fortress and watchtower with a collection of traditional artefacts and objects including royal weaponry, plus media exhibits depicting the country’s monarchy history.
