Come Along to Experience Malaysia with a Travel Agent

Four of our agents recently embarked on an unforgettable familiarisation trip to Malaysia. Read on for a full account of their amazing experience.

Dear Readers,
My name is Prakash and I work in Brightsun’s Marketing Department. Recently, I found myself on the journey of a lifetime. Packed with excitement and curiosity, I embarked on a familiarisation trip sponsored by Malaysia Airlines with 3 of my colleagues to Malaysia, a land of enchanting landscapes, rich traditions, and vibrant culture and I thought it’d be great if everyone could join me on this thrilling voyage as I recount my seven days in Malaysia, filled with unforgettable experiences and discoveries. So, what are we waiting for? Let the adventure begin:

Day 1: Delhi to Kuala Lumpur

The journey began at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, where our group gathered for the adventure ahead. Despite a slight delay due to unforeseen circumstances, the anticipation in the air was palpable. Finally, we boarded our Malaysia Airlines flight, a Boeing 737-800, bound for Kuala Lumpur.

The flight, spanning over five hours, was a testament to Malaysian hospitality. With a wide array of in-flight entertainment and delectable meals, the hours flew by. Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA), the gateway to this captivating country, welcomed us warmly. Though our hotel was at a distance, the journey to Upper View Regalia Hotel was a swift one, taking us through the bustling streets of Kuala Lumpur.

Upper View Regalia Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Our abode for the Kuala Lumpur leg of the journey was the splendid Upper View Regalia Hotel. This 4-star gem offered us a haven of comfort and relaxation. With a 24-hour front desk and a concierge service, the hotel ensured our needs were met promptly.

Our well-appointed rooms at Upper View Regalia were equipped with modern amenities, including air conditioning, flat-screen TVs with satellite channels, a fridge, and a kettle. After a whole day of travel, sinking into the plush bedding was pure bliss.

One of the standout features of the hotel was its rooftop outdoor swimming pool, providing a panoramic view of the cityscape. It was the perfect place to unwind and rejuvenate after a day of sightseeing.

For dining options, the hotel had its own restaurant where we savoured a delicious buffet breakfast each morning. The availability of private parking was an added convenience, making our stay hassle-free.

Day 2: Batu Caves and Genting Highlands

Waking up early, we embarked on a day filled with cultural exploration. Our first stop was the awe-inspiring Batu Caves, a sacred site for Tamil Hindus. The temple, nestled within 400-million-year-old limestone caves, was a breathtaking sight. Climbing the 272 steps, we witnessed pilgrims and monkeys harmoniously sharing the space. One thing you must note is not to underestimate the number of monkeys you’re going to find here.

Following Batu Caves, we ascended to the clouds, literally, as we ventured to Genting Highlands. Perched atop Mount Ulu Kali, this hill station offered us a glimpse of Malaysia's natural beauty. From exploring shopping malls to visiting the tranquil Chin Swee Caves temple, the day was a perfect blend of culture and serenity.

Day 3: Kuala Lumpur City Tour

Our exploration continued on our third day, as we embarked on a city tour. From the regal King's Palace (Istana Negara) to the historic British-built railway station, and the iconic Petronas Twin Towers, the city stood resplendent in the colours of the Malaysian flag, having celebrate its Independence Day just a week before.

One highlight was the National Mosque (Masjid Negara), a magnificent tourist attraction and a sacred site in Malaysia, standing adjacent to the Museum of Islamic Arts. Our tour also took us to the vibrant market of Little India, a bustling hub of Indian culture in the heart of Kuala Lumpur.

We also bought a bunch of souvenirs (keychains & fridge magnets) and very yummy tiramisu flavoured chocolates to take home from the Chinatown Market. A little advice: haggling does not really work here. So, just try to find a shop that is selling souvenirs already at a price that suits your budget.

Day 4: Onward to Kota Kinabalu

On 4th day in Malaysia, our journey continued as we were to take a 2.5-hour flight to Kota Kinabalu. After breakfast, we explored a nearby mall before heading to the airport. Kota Kinabalu, situated on the peak of Mount Ulu Kali, offered a stunning change of scenery. Here, we were staying at the Nexus Resort and Spa Karambunai that offers authentic Sabahan hospitality. The day concluded with a satisfying dinner, preparing us for the adventures to come.

Nexus Resorts and Spa Karambunai

Our haven in Kota Kinabalu was the luxurious Nexus Resorts and Spa Karambunai. Set against the backdrop of lush greenery and pristine beaches, the resort was a paradise within a paradise. Its spacious rooms and serene ambiance made it the perfect retreat.

The resort boasted a range of amenities, including a world-class spa, multiple dining options, and a golf course. After a day of exploring Kota Kinabalu's natural wonders, the resort's tranquil setting was the ideal place to unwind.

The efficient immigration process was followed by a late-night arrival in Delhi, concluding our unforgettable journey.

Things you should note before planning a Malaysia trip

Navigating Malaysia's diverse cuisine as a vegetarian can be challenging. As a vegetarian, I had very limited options initially, heavily relying on fruits, as most of the dishes claiming to be vegetarian contained egg (yes, even instant ramen). Fortunately, I stumbled upon the Grab app—a lifesaver. It seamlessly connects you to a world of delicious vegetarian dishes through food delivery.

Finally, I had fragrant Indian curries and Chinese stir-fried noodles, all at my fingertips through the app. Grab also ensures hassle-free transportation, making your journey smooth and convenient. In Malaysia's culinary diversity, Grab became my ally.

trip-to-Malaysia

In the span of seven days, Malaysia had opened its heart to us, revealing its rich culture, stunning landscapes, and warm hospitality. From the mystical Batu Caves to the modern marvel of the Petronas Twin Towers, from the cultural vibrancy of Little India to the serenity of Kota Kinabalu's beaches, each day was a revelation. Malaysia is not just a destination; it's an experience that lingers long after you leave.

As a travel agent, this familiarisation trip has equipped me with a deeper understanding of Malaysia's treasures, enabling me to curate unforgettable experiences for travellers seeking to explore this beautiful country. Malaysia, with its rich tapestry of cultures, is a destination that beckons all who yearn for adventure and discovery. Malaysia, truly Asia, indeed!
